[Bug Fixes] Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia T2 Ultra Updated to Android 4.4 KitKat
Unexpectedly Sony has surprised us by rolling Android 4.4.2 update for Xperia Z1 Compact today in form of exclusive 14.4.A.0.108 firmware. Users of Sony’s flagship smartphones, including Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia Z1 can now avail the official Android 4.4.2 KitKat update. Android 4.4.2 Xperia Z1 Comapct 14.4.A.0.108 firmware update is confirmed in regions Russia, Indonesia, Italy and still seeding to other parts of the world. According to information on Sony’s Mobile Support pages, the latest firmware from Google offers many special features, counting camera updates, App to SD card transfer, plus the most recent apps editions.
App to SD Card Transfer
Google removed the “App to SD card” transfer on Android KitKat OS which was included to previous Android versions such as 2.3 Gingerbread, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and 4.1 to 4.3 Jelly Bean, but SonyXperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia T2 Ultra (4.4.2) regained the “App to SD Card” feature which enables us to move some specific applications to the external storage.

This feature can be accessible by going to Settings>Applications. Sony Mobile has included a latest column in the Applications Manager labeled “On SD Card” it allows to move apps to external storage. Thus, more space will now be available on these two devices’ internal storage by transferring selected apps to the SD card.
This feature, however, is not present in the Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware update for Sony Xperia Z series.
Camera Enhancements
Sony has also upgraded the camera of Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Nearly all Xperia smartphones that received the updates are now using Smart Social Camera app enabling downloadable camera add-ons like Info-Eye, Augmented Reality, Motiongraphy and Timeshift Burst. The official support page of Sony confirms that these devices received latest camera updates enhancing the experience of the users. Also they now have faster loading times, enhanced low-light scene detection, better image capturing and other improvements. However, the precise details about the improvement were not disclosed.
Other Enhancements
Sony Mobiles added several other changes on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat which relate to apps’ performance and services, and necessary bug fixes.

Bug fixes also include the patch for OpenSSL vulnerability found on Android 4.4.1 KitKat related to Heartbleed bug while other optimisations may include longer battery life, more stable system and better user experience.
